Tip #10 You Are the Strongest Link
For our last tip in the series we are going to talk about the most important aspect of how to stay safe on the Internet. This component is not anything technological, such as a program that can be kept updated or vigilance held for would-be attackers. Rather, it’s something more human – yourself!
Indeed, most virus outbreaks or hacker break-ins would not have a chance of occurring if it weren’t for human error. Our own selves have always been the weakest link, which is why Level Seven recommends to always remain cautious on your computer, especially when on the Internet.
To do this, we suggest the following:
1. Never write down passwords, lest someone else find them. However, if you must record them it may be wise to always carry them with you.
2. If something looks unfamiliar or suspicious to you while on the Internet, it’s probably a bad idea. Close any suspicious windows or call us for additional guidance.
3. Trust only yourself with account login information, unless a spouse or loved one absolutely needs access as well.
4. Log out and close all programs and web pages when done with a computer. If pages must be left up, ensure your computer is locked with a secure password.
The Internet can be a fun and magical place to experience when done safely. Don’t be afraid of it, but do respect it!
