What is it?
The ICE Cybercrime Center virus is Ransomware that locks out the user’s computer claiming that they have commited a crime. The lock-out screen urges the user to obtain a MoneyPak for $300 from local retailers and use the code to unlock their computer. This is a complete scam.
How could I get it?
This virus is distributed in a variety of ways. Here are some things to watch for: suspicious emails, specifically ones claiming to be from carriers such as DHL or UPS. These emails trick you by claiming that they tried to deliver a package to you, but it failed. Once you click to find out what the status of the “package” is, you will be infected. Another means of delivery is through pop-ups that are fake update alerts for such legitimate software as Adobe Flash. Downloading pirated music or software through peer-to-peer software is another surefire way to get infected with viruses such as ICE.
